Ranch Rail Fencing

Weatherables® Ranch Rail Project Packs include the posts and rails needed for either 320 or 640 linear feet of fencing. The pack includes the appropriate mix of line, end, and 3-way posts based on your layout, and 3-way posts can work as line, end, or corner posts by covering unused openings. Gates are sold separately, and a Weatherables® representative will confirm your post requirements after you order.

Weatherables® vinyl ranch rail fencing is designed for horse fencing and provides a highly visible physical barrier for horses and livestock. Available configurations include 2-rail, 3-rail, 4-rail, and Crossbuck styles, with 4-rail and Crossbuck options providing more barrier coverage. Standard ranch rails measure 1.5 inches by 5.5 inches, and the smooth vinyl won't splinter, rot, or attract insects like wood can. 

Weatherables® vinyl ranch rail fencing is available in White, Tan, Khaki, and Gray, with additional finishes available for select styles. Color availability can vary by rail count and component, so confirm that your posts, rails, gates, and post caps are all offered in the same finish before ordering. A free vinyl sample kit can help you compare colors and material quality in person.

Horse fencing does not ship as a standard parcel order. Large orders typically ship secured on pallets by motor freight, and Weatherables® currently lists a 3 to 5 business day ship-out window for horse fence orders. The freight company will arrange delivery, and someone must be available to unload the material, either by hand or with a forklift. Review our shipping policy.

Weatherables® Ranch Rail Project Packs are available in 320-foot and 640-foot sizes, so a 320-foot pack covers about 320 linear feet of installed fence and a 640-foot pack covers about 640 linear feet. Measure individual fence runs and account for gates, corners, and other breaks before determining how much vinyl ranch rail fencing you need.

Yes. Project Packs come in 320-foot and 640-foot quantities, but individual Ranch Rail sections are also available, and Weatherables® recommends requesting a free estimate for larger projects that do not match the standard pack sizes. Share your total footage, rail style, number of gates, and layout details so the team can calculate the right mix of posts and rails.

Weatherables® Ranch Rail posts are approximately 0.145 to 0.150 inches thick, depending on the applicable product specification, while standard rails are approximately 0.090 inches thick. The current 3-Rail Horse Fence installation guide specifies a 0.150-inch post wall and 0.090-inch rail wall, and Weatherables' vinyl is rated up to 50% stronger than competing vinyl and up to five times stronger than wood.

Weatherables® horse fence posts are hollow, but they are designed to function as the fence posts themselves rather than slip over an existing wood or metal post. The 5-inch by 5-inch posts are routed so the ranch rails slide directly into them, so no internal post is needed for a standard installation.

The rails use notched ends that lock into the routed openings in the posts, so you don't need nails, brackets, or screws for a standard Ranch Rail section. If you shorten a rail, notch the new cut end again before installation; the Weatherables® Fence Rail Notcher creates a 3/4-inch locking notch.

Yes. Weatherables® Ranch Rail can accommodate moderate changes in grade, and the 3-Rail Horse Fence installation guide states that a panel can rack up to 6 inches across an 8-foot span. Steeper or uneven slopes may require layout adjustments, so review the instructions for your specific style or contact Weatherables® before installation.

A gentle curve may be possible, but Ranch Rail uses straight vinyl rails that lock into routed posts, so it cannot bend freely around tight curves. For a curved driveway or property line, contact the Weatherables® team and send your layout before ordering so the team can determine whether the post spacing and rail system will work for the planned radius.

Weatherables® manufactures and sells the fencing but does not provide installation services directly. Ranch Rail is designed to be DIY-friendly, and Weatherables® provides product-specific instructions for 2-rail, 3-rail, 4-rail, Crossbuck, and gate installations, along with lifetime product support if questions come up during the project.

No. Standard Ranch Rail installation requires setting the posts in the ground. Weatherables' 3-Rail Horse Fence instructions call for holes approximately 10 to 12 inches wide and 32 to 36 inches deep, with the footing extending below the local frost line where required; standard post spacing is 96 inches, or 8 feet, on center.

Weatherables® has not tested or approved hammer-in metal post anchors as a standard installation method for Ranch Rail horse fencing. Published instructions call for in-ground posts set with concrete or the specified concrete alternative, so contact Weatherables® before using a different anchoring system that could affect stability or installation.

Weatherables' 3-Rail Horse Fence installation guide recommends having at least one 60-pound bag of concrete ready for each post hole. Mix concrete with water and pour it wet, not dry-set; for reference, the standard installation calls for a hole about 10 to 12 inches wide and 32 to 36 inches deep.

Yes. Weatherables® vinyl horse fencing is made for year-round outdoor exposure and uses impact-resistant vinyl designed to handle changing temperatures and weather conditions. Unlike wood, vinyl does not need seasonal painting or staining and won't rot from moisture, so routine maintenance usually comes down to occasional cleaning rather than refinishing.

Yes. Weatherables® vinyl includes protection against weather-related discoloration and is covered by the company's warranty against excessive discoloration under the stated warranty conditions. Because the color is part of the vinyl material, ranch rail fencing does not require routine painting or staining to maintain its finish. Review the Weatherables vinyl warranty. 

Weatherables® has not designed or tested Ranch Rail with a specific wire-mesh attachment method, so we can't recommend a manufacturer-approved installation method. If you want to add mesh to a horse fence or livestock enclosure, contact Weatherables® with the mesh type and planned attachment method so the team can help you avoid damaging the vinyl rails or posts.

Yes. You can cut Weatherables® Ranch Rail when your layout requires a section shorter than the standard 8-foot post spacing. After cutting the rail with an appropriate saw, notch the new end so it can lock securely into the routed post; the Weatherables Fence Rail Notcher creates the required 3/4-inch notch. 

Standard Ranch Rail posts are spaced 8 feet, or 96 inches, on center. Sections can be shortened when a layout calls for less than 8 feet, but careful center-to-center measurements help keep rails properly seated in the routed posts throughout the fence run. See Ranch Rail installation guides. 

Rail spacing varies by horse fence style. Weatherables® specifications list 11-inch spacing for both 2-rail and 3-rail fencing and 9-inch spacing for 4-rail fencing; Crossbuck fencing uses a different diagonal layout. Check the specifications for your chosen style before installation, especially when planning horse fencing or other livestock enclosures. 

Standard Weatherables® Ranch Rail rails measure 1.5 inches by 5.5 inches and come in lengths of about 95.5 inches or 191.5 inches, depending on the product configuration. The standard 3-Rail Horse Fence specification lists a rail wall thickness of 0.090 inches; Diamond Rail products use a different 3-inch by 3-inch profile.

Yes. Weatherables® offers matching horse fence gates, including single gates from 4 to 8 feet wide and double-gate configurations from 8 to 16 feet wide. The horse fencing specifications list commercial-grade, black powder-coated stainless steel hardware, and double gates include two gate leaves, a center latch, and two drop rods. 

No. Matching gates are available for Weatherables® Ranch Rail fencing, but they must be ordered separately from the 320-foot and 640-foot Project Packs. Plan your gate locations before ordering so the correct post layout and gate configuration can be included in the project plan.

Weatherables® vinyl fencing is manufactured in Ohio, including its vinyl ranch rail and horse fencing products. Weatherables® manufactures and sells its own vinyl products, which gives the company direct control over material specifications, quality checks, and customer support rather than relying on a separate fencing manufacturer.

Weatherables® horse fencing is made from durable PVC vinyl designed to resist rot, cracking, insect damage, and moisture without the painting or staining wood requires. Weatherables® vinyl fencing and railing is made from 85% recycled materials, and the company's vinyl is rated up to 50% stronger than competing vinyl and up to five times stronger than wood, based on its stated tensile-strength comparison.
