Short answer: yes, but only in one direction. Weatherables® gate kits are built with a little extra material so they can be trimmed down on-site to fit openings narrower than their listed maximum width. What they can't do is stretch wider than the size they're built for — so knowing where that line is before you order saves a return trip.
How Gate Width Modification Actually Works
Every Weatherables® vinyl gate kit is manufactured to a maximum opening width — commonly in the 44 to 50 inch range for single gates, and well over 100 inches for double gate kits. If your actual opening is smaller than that max, the gate can be cut down on-site during installation to fit your exact measurement. This is standard practice, not a workaround, and it's why measuring your opening precisely before you start matters more than the gate's listed size.
What you can't do is go the other way. A gate built for a 46.5-inch max opening can't be widened past that. If your opening is wider than the gate you're looking at, the fix is a larger single gate model or a double gate kit — not modifying the one you have.
Measure the Gate Opening Before Anything Else
If you're installing a full fence run with a gate in it, measure and assemble the gate opening first, before you finalize the spacing of the rest of the panels. The gate sets the reference point for the whole layout — get it locked in first, and the surrounding fence line falls into place around it. Trying to retrofit a gate opening after the rest of the fence is already spaced out is one of the most common ways installs go sideways.
Fine-Tuning Fit Without Cutting Anything
Not every fit issue means trimming the gate frame. Weatherables® gate hinges are multi-adjustable — horizontally, vertically, and by tension — which handles a lot of small alignment and swing issues without touching the gate itself. If a gate is closing too fast, hanging slightly crooked, or sitting a little off from the post, that's usually a hinge adjustment, not a width problem.
For wider gates, an adjustable gate brace (sized for openings from 4' x 4' up to 6' x 6') helps prevent sagging over time — worth adding to any gate on the larger end of its range, cut down or not.

Measure your actual opening first. If it's narrower than the gate's max width, you're in good shape — it can be trimmed to fit on-site.
